FSK based Caller ID standards > Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA)

Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA)
Region: USA
Standards: TIA/EIA-716 Telecommunications Telephone Terminal Equipment - Type 1
    Caller Identity Equipment Performance Requirements

TIA/EIA-777 Telecommunications Telephone Terminal Equipment - Type 2
    Caller Identity Equipment Performance Requirements

Overview: These TIA standards describe the requirements for Caller ID capable Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) in both the on-hook (type I) and off-hook (type 2) modes of operation. Similar to the Telecordia SR-3004 document, the TIA documents cover both the physical and data layer aspects of Caller ID transmissions. Additionally, the TIA/EIA-777 standard provides the requirements for Multiple Extension Interworking (MEI) functionality. MEI allows for multiple type 2 telephones to correctly receive Caller ID information when either in the on-hook or off-hook state. As such, the call logs for all MEI compliant telephones will be consistent with each other. Non-MEI compliant telephones can contain different call logs and prevent type 2 Caller ID data reception when off-hook. In addition, MEI provides Call Waiting with Disposition (CWD) functionality with multiple telephones in the off-hook state. For CAS (CPE Alerting Signal) detector testing, the TIA/EIA-777 document references the testing plans contained in the Telecordia SR-3004 and SR-TSV-002476 standards.
