| Overview: |
The European Telecommunications
Standards Institute (ETSI) standard concerning
Caller ID capable terminal equipment (TE)
consists of primarily the four documents listed
above. The ETSI standard is basically an
amalgamation of various other standards, such as
the Bellcore, BT, and CCA. Also covered in the
ETSI documents is a Caller ID transmission
protocol based on DTMF signaling. The documents
ETS 300 659-1 and ETS 300 659-2 describe the
subscriber line protocol used for Caller ID
services for both on-hook and off-hook data
transmission. ETS 300 659-1 explains the on-hook
data transmission protocol in terms of signaling,
timing, tolerances, along with descriptions of
the data link message and parameter coding. For
the case of off-hook data transmission, ETS 300
659-2 explains the protocol, along with any
differences or extensions to relating to ETS 300
659-1. The third and forth documents in the set,
ETS 300 778-1/2, focuses on the requirements of
the terminal equipment. This includes the
physical layer and data link layer requirements,
along with testing setups and conditions. |
